About Taapsee Pannu
Taapsee Pannu is a model-turned-actor from Delhi. She started her career with the South Indian film industry–Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu, and had also worked in more than ten Bollywood movies since 2010–the year that marked her film career.
Taapsee Pannu is a Jat Sikhni and has roots in Ludhiana in Punjab. She was born and brought up in Delhi.
She was born on August 1, 1987, to Dilmohan Singh Pannu and Nirmaljeet Kaur Pannu. She studied at Mata Jai Kaur Public School in Delhi.
In her introduction on her website, Taapsee refers to herself as a “careless brat”, “outdoorsy person” and “short-tempered”. She started to learn Kathak and Bharatnatyam in fourth grade. She did her engineering from GTBIT College.
It was at GTBIT College that she started The Western Dance Group with a few classmates. Tapsee led the crew and had won many inter-college competitions. She is a trained Kathak dancer; Taapsee Pannu learnt Kathak from the disciples of Birju Maharaj. She admits to not being lured by the flashy nightlife of Delhi and had always abide by her parents’ rule of returning home early at the said time.
In her bio on her official website, Taapsee says she was always a “hungry kid” at school. For the same reason, she would get two lunch boxes packed.
Taapsee, in hiding, would finish those lunch boxes by the third period itself and during lunchtime she would eat something else at the canteen. As a young brat, she would make her classmates to share their lunch boxes as well.
Taapsee is fond of cycling and riding bikes. Since she wasn’t allowed at home to have a bike of her own, she would borrow to go on rides. She scored 46% in her eleventh grade because she was too much involved with extra-curricular activities.
Later, she realized and prepared well for the boards next year. If you are determined to do something, you surely will achieve. And this is what Taapsee proved. She scored 90.2% in her board exams.
Taapsee Pannu, later, like many engineers, appeared for Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and score 88 in the CAT entrance exam. She laughs it off saying if she had scored a 90, she would have got an admission in one of the B-schools. This could have landed her in an entirely different profession.
Taapsee Pannu’s Modelling Career
None of her family members has a filmy career background. Taapsee Pannu’s parents were equally not sure of her film and modeling career.
Her father believed in a good educational background while her mother had an affinity towards Indian Cinema.
One day, while surfing the Internet, Taapsee Pannu came across Get Gorgeous Pageant held by Channel V, and she casually filled the form. To her surprise, she was selected! That’s how her modeling career began.
Earlier, she had done a few advertisements during college. Taapsee had also won the titles of Safi Femina Miss Beautiful Skin (to which we all agree) and Pantaloons Femina Miss Fresh Face.
She was offered the roles in South Indian movies to which she denied initially. One of her colleagues convinced her that there are many actors in the Industry who had not known the language but later they excelled in their careers.
She gave it a try and become one of the few South Indian actresses who has had seven releases in a year! That was the year 2011. Nothing more can speak of her dedication and hard work.
Taapsee Pannu had endorsed brands namely, Pantaloons, Reliance Trends, Vardhman, UniStyle Image, Coca-Cola, Dabur, PVR Cinemas, Airtel, Motorola, Red FM 93.5, Tata Docomo, Havells, World Gold Council and Standard Chartered Bank.
