Sandeep Singh belonged to a middle-class family and was born in Haryana on 27th February 1986. He finished his studies from his hometown Sahababad in Kurukshetra. Elder brother of Sandeep Singh, Bikramjeet Singh is also a hockey player moreover played for Indian oil, in proficient terms he is working as DSP in Haryana police.

The international career of Sandeep Singh was commenced in 2004 playing for Sultan Azlan Shah Cup held in Kuala Lumpur. In 2009 to 2010 he became the Indian Hockey Team captain and was the hero in Sultan Azlan Shah Tournament which was in 2009. In this tournament, India defeated Malaysia in finals and competent to win after thirteen years. Sandeep Singh was recognized as the highest goal maker in this tournament. He was also the superstar in the qualifying matches of 2012 Olympic tournament in which he defeated France by 8-1 in the finals. In this match, Sandeep Singh acquired a hat trick and made five goals in total and owing to his incredible performances able to qualify after eight years. In the qualifying matches on London Olympic 2012, Sandeep Singh again recognized as the highest goal maker as he made about sixteen goals which were highest in the tournament.

As reported by Free Press Journal “The great hockey player Sandeep Singh was traveling with his friend Major Singh in Shatabdi express on 22nd August 2006. All of a sudden a bullet mistakenly fired by his friend Major Singh directly hit him on his thigh and this made him severely injured. It was recognized as the dark day for Indian hockey team, and all hockey lovers were in shock. Sandeep Singh was the only hope for all as he had to play for the international World Cup hockey tournament which was to be held just after two days of this sad incident. Owing to his injury, he was not able to partake in that tournament, and everybody understood that hockey career of Sandeep Singh was ended.”
In the game of hockey, the fitness is the most significant factor, and it was like a challenge for Sandeep Singh to get back on his earlier position. However, he did not give up and came back to the ground and surprised everybody with his performance in Olympic 2009 in Azlan Shah Tournament. The biggest reason that India could not qualify for Olympic was Sandeep Singh’s incapability to play in qualifying matches in Olympic 2008. In 2011 again Sandeep Singh injured in 2011 and it was doubtful to play in London Olympics qualifying matches. In spite of being hurt, he played very well in all games of London Olympics and also became a successful player in all competitions and won the finals too.

In 2010 the real Soorma Sandeep Singh got Arjuna Award for his contributions in hockey for India. He also won the Silver medal in @2010 Commonwealth games at New Delhi, and Bronze in 2007 Champions Challenge held at Belgium.
