Lokesh Rahul was born to K.N. Lokesh and Rajeshwari in Mangalore, Karnataka.
Both his parents are professors; Rahul’s father K.N. Lokesh is a professor at the National Institue of Technology in Karnataka and his mother Rajeshwari is a professor in history at Mangalore University.
K.N. Lokesh has always been supporter of Indian cricket, and a fan of Sunil Gavaskar.
When his son was born, he mistook the name of Rohan Gavaskar (Sunil Gavaskar’s son) as Rahul and, thus, named his son Kannur Lokesh Rahul.

KL Rahul has studied from NITK English Medium School, Surathkal.
While at school, when he was 11-year-old, He started to play cricket.
At the age of 18, he qualified JEE (Main) with the rank 1726 and got admission at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar in Computer Science.
He joined the IIT Ropar cricket team. After showcasing an outstanding performance in cricket in IIT sport meet, he decided to quit the IIT to pursue his career in cricket.

KL Rahul made his state-level cricket debut with Karnataka Cricket Association, Bengaluru. In 2010, he played for Indian team in ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand.
KL Rahul became the first triple centurion for Karnataka in first-class cricket while playing against Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association.
He scored 337 runs of 448 balls and slammed 47 fours and four sixes in the match. In a match against Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, he scored 188 runs.
KL Rahul had played Ranji matches; in the nine matches of Ranji Trophy, from 2014-15, his run rate was at 93.11.
He replaced Rohit Sharma in the December 26, 2014, Boxing Day Test series, against Australia. This was the day when he made his debut in Team India in Melbourne.
He batted at number six and scored three runs in the first innings. In the second innings he played at number three and made one run. This did not deter KL’s will.
He went on to practice more.
Later, he scored 110 runs at the Sydney Cricket Ground, making it his first maiden international century.
KL Rahul was selected in the India Squad 2016 in India vs West Indies for four-test series; he made 158 runs in Jamaica. KL Rahul became the first Indian opener cricketer to score a century in West Indies.
