Hailing from a small village Dara Pur in Punjab’s Moga district, Harmanpreet Kaur has covered long lengths in her cricket career and is Captain of India’s Women’s Cricket Team.
Born on March 8, 1989, Harmanpreet Kaur Bhullar made her impressive ODI debut in the 2009 Women’s World Cup at a young age of 20 where playing against India’s arch rival Pakistan, Harmanpreet Kaur, made a strong impression by bowling fantastic 4 overs giving away just 10 runs and catching off Armaan Khan off Amita Sharma.
Her T20 International Debut
According to NDTV Sports, Soon afterwards, Harmanpreet Kaur made her T20 International debut against England in Taunton, in ICC Women’s World Twenty20 in June 2009.
Coached by Kamaldish Singh Sodhi and Yadwinder Singh Sodhi, Harmanpreet Kaur made her mark in batting in 2010, after she hit smashing 33 in a Twenty 20 match against England. And then there was just no looking back for this young woman cricketer.
In 2012, during Women’s T20 Asia Cup, Harmanpreet Kaur was appointed as the Captain of the Indian Cricket Team for the Cup’s final match, after both, the then Captain and Vice-captain, Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami respectively, were benched due to injuries.
Once again making her debut against our neighboring country, Pakistan, this time as India’s Captain in Asia Cup’s finale, Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and chose to bat first. The decision at the time seemed to have backfired as the Indian team was bowled out for 81 runs, with Harmanpreet scoring 20.
In true sportsman spirit, Harmanpreet did not give up and kept the morale of the team high inspiring one and all to give in their best. Playing her role of a skipper well, Harmanpreet led India to victory bringing home the Asia Cup.
As Women’s ODI team’s Captain
Continuing her notable performance on the field, Harmanpreet Kaur was named as Women’s ODI team’s captain in March 2013 during Bangladesh’s Indian tour.
In a fantastic win over Bangladesh, India, under Harmanpreet Kaur’s guidance won the series defeating Bangladesh in all the three T20s and three ODIs. Harmanpreet Kaur led the team in the series by example, adding a century and a fifty to India’s score and taking two wickets.

Continuing her outstanding performance against Bangladesh in Women’s World Twenty20 match, against Mithali Raj’s captainship, Harmanpreet Kaur struck an extraordinary score of 77 in Sylhet, bringing victory to India once again.
Harmanpreet Kaur made her first Test debut in August 2014, alongwith seven other debutants, against England’s women team at Wormsley where her performance was not at par with her previous performances but that just could not have fazed this high-spirited Punjabi girl.
Coming back high and strong in a Test match against South Africa in November 2015, Harmanpreet Kaur took 9 wickets in a Test match at Gangotri Glades Cricket Ground at Mysore, aiding India to a stupendous victory by an innings and 34 runs.
In 2016, Harmanpreet Kaur not only was a significant factor in India’s win against Australia in a series but also scored 46 runs off 31 balls chasing Australia’s 141 runs at Adelaide Oval in what was India’s highest ever chase in T20 international matches. Popularly known as Virender Sehwag of Indian women’s cricket team, Harmanpreet struck impressive six fours and a six.
Owing to her striking performance all along, Harmanpreet was offered to play for Big Bash League’s Sydney Thunders Women and became the first Indian woman cricketer to play in ( Big Bash League Sydney Thunders Women ) an overseas private league.
In November 2016, Harmanpreet Kaur replaced Mithali Raj as skipper for Indian Women’s Twenty20 team.

Harmanpreet Kaur : A Fighter
As mentioned on Espncricinfo, Harmanpreet Kaur hails from a small obscure village on India’s map, Harmanpreet Kaur has just not had it easy. With her school at a distance of 25 Km from her village, she had to walk 4 Km to reach the bus stop.
In a country, where cricket is almost worshipped and cricketers are loved no less than Gods, even today cricket largely remains a man’s domain like most other sports. In a world of men, Harmanpreet Kaur had to work hard to prove her mettle, bearing disapproval from neighbours, scarcity of cricket pitches and blame that she was spoiling other girls too by motivating them to play cricket with her.
Turning point in her life came when her school principal, Shri Kamal Singh Sodhi, saw her smashing a few hits in the village and asked her to join his school hoping that she would help build a good school cricket team.
Supported and encouraged by her father, a clerk in law department, Harmanpreet availed well all the opportunities that came her way deserving well where she is today. We wish her all the very best for her future.
